Structured Cabling

Structured cabling system (SCS) is a set of cabling and connectivity products that integrates the voice, data, video, and various management systems of an office / building / factory (such as safety alarms, security access, energy systems, etc.). An SCS consists of an open architecture, standardized media and layout, standard connection interfaces, adherence to national and international standards, and total system design and installation. Standardized cabling architecture allows a single delivery method to be designed for supporting the various horizontal cables in the work space. It can be taken a step further by incorporating the horizontal electrical services from the electrical panel into a modular partitioned raceway. This can be used instead of a traditional hardwired installation consisting of several conduit and cable-tray systems for the voice, data, video, Building Management System (BMS), and electrical services. Case studies show that an integrated approach can provide up to a 30-percent construction savings for cabling and delivery methods when a single high/low voltage cabling infrastructure is implemented.

Converged IT

ConvergeIT is a converged, IP-based intelligent building cabling system using a single, simplified structured cabling infrastructure for a smarter, greener building.

ConvergeIT helps architects, design-build firms, building owners and contractors plan and deploy efficient IT cabling infrastructure for support of green intelligent buildings.

  • voice/data
  • video surveillance
  • access control
  • audio/video
  • fire alarms
  • energy management
  • HVAC

Converged IT Benefits include:

Robust and flexible technology: Category 5e, 6, and 6A UTP and F/UTP and category 7A S/FTP media support delivery of all low-voltage building automation and A/V applications, including those supported by PoE (Power over Ethernet) and PoE Plus. Multimode and singlemode optical fiber solutions may be deployed as part of a ConvergeIT solution if prior consideration is given to the need to power low-voltage devices.

True network management: ConvergeIT supports low-voltage building automation and A/V systems being linked to the data network resulting in simplified infrastructure management and reduced complexity. This also provides a migration path for IP-enabled devices that can be monitored, accessed, and managed by IT administrators.

Asset control: Converging multiple applications over one integrated cabling system enables real-time control of assets and information; a critical component of regulations such as the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), the Real ID Act, the Homeland Security Presidential Directive, ISO 17799 code of information security, and the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) for information technology management.

Supports green building initiatives: ConvergeIT supports all areas of structured cabling infrastructure efficiency (e.g. reduced labor and rapid deployment provided by one contractor, support of cable sharing strategies to reduce the number of unused pairs in an installation, intelligent HVAC control, and delivery of every audiovisual application)
